Reflections on Pride Month

“Pride month” is a term that refers to the wide range of “Pride” events that start taking place from the 1st of June (and go actively the entire summer covering September as well making it as a “pride season”), when 2SLGBTQIA+ and their allies come together to highlight themselves. 1st June is the month in which officially the “pride” (2SLGBTQIA+) flags are hoisted just under the Canadian flags, soaring everywhere, be it in the public library, public schools, banks, mainstream grocery stores, to the extent that some road crossings are also painted with pride flags and are called rainbow crossing. In other words, “pride month” is without a doubt a euphemism for-State Sponsored Enforcement of Normalisation of 2SLGBTQIA+ values.

Their (mind the pronouns!) agenda is very clear – Under the pretext of “being inclusive” and “minority oppression,” they want to indoctrinate the 2SLGBTQIA+ beliefs especially among the muslim communities, as this is the only community by and large which has not compromised on their values. We have witnessed the push in the form of the two muslim women wearing hijab (khimar) and kissing each other in a poster last year which was posted in some schools and universities of Canada.
The way the west is pushing these 2SLGBTQIA+ narratives through mass media and films in muslim majority countries is not unknown, one example to cite being the recent release of pro LGBTQ film – Joy Land by Saim Sadiq, which had its world premiere at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival on 23 May 2022, becoming the first Pakistani film to premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.

Alhamdulillah! Muslims by and large are against this agenda, and they are quite vocal too about it.

The irony of the West is that they claim themselves as the ambassador of the notion of “Freedom of speech and expression,” but when it goes against them then they call it as “intolerance,” “homophobia” and so on.
We need to understand, and now even the west has made us understand this practically, that absolute freedom is a myth. The question arises then Who will decide the limits and boundaries of freedom? When it comes to freedom to insult like they often do by making cartoons on the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, then the justifications is always their freedom, and when we resist through peaceful protests we are labelled as “intolerant, extremists” who cannot tolerate freedom to blaspheme the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, but when it comes to expressing our views that supporting pride community is against our religious beliefs, then they do not tolerate this and call this “intolerance,” and even blasphemy (their equivalent of blasphemy being homophobia).

What is khair (good) in this blessed Ummah is the concern they feel for their progeny, it is the constant consciousness and fear of Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى The Creator, without being conscious and afraid of people, the limited creation.

The Ummah understands that if the majority and the state is indoctrinating their own whimsical ideas through state structures and institutions, then we are not bound to follow it like a dead fish which goes with the flow of the vast ocean. They know being muslim means submission to Allah alone, and not to the whims and vain desires of the people. The Ummah understands that people are so lost that they go against their very own DNA, their own very fitrah, their own very consciousness, they don’t even know the basic answer of a simple question of “What is a woman?”

So from where did it all start?
If we study a bit about it,
John William Money was an American psychologist, sexologist and a phd from Harvard University, he came with the weird idea of BodyMind, which says “nature versus nurture”, “innate versus acquired”, “physiological versus psychological.”

He conducted the first sexual reassignment surgery on the boy named David who was born as a male in Canada and had a twin brother as well, both the brothers were diagnosed with a medical condition in which circumcission was required, the circumcission went horrible as it was done by some unconventional method and the penis of David got burned out beyond surgical repair. The parents of David went to see the John William Money and he convinced the parents to go for reassignment sex surgery and thus making David live like a girl, his testes were removed through surgical procedure, and a psychological sex reassignment support was also given to him so that he feels like a girl, he was also given estrogen for breast enhancement. John William Money to conduct his experiment used to compel David and his twin brother do sexual acts when they were at the age of 6, when they used to say no, he used to get angry.
The sex reassignment surgery was a flawed one, as David never lived like a girl, and he went for a reversal surgery when his parents told him the truth, seeing his emotional turmoil and uneasiness.
David’s twin brother used to live on anti-depressants and died due to overdose one day and David too shot himself, they couldn’t come out of their childhood traumas of the sexual rehearsal done upon them by John William Money. This was the first sex reassignment surgery which was showcased as a “success” by John William Money but was a complete failure. David Reimer’s case was later covered by
John Colapinto in his book –
As Nature Made Him: The Boy Who Was Raised as A Girl.

Despite the flawed sex reassignment surgery, we know how still the agenda to change the sex is instilled in children as young as kindergarten. When I read about this incident it was too terrifying for me to read such a tragedy but this is what is happening on state level now, they are indoctrinating young minds to accept it as “new normal” without even educating them about the adverse effects of such surgeries and hormones, and those who are not supporting it they are being belittled and mocked.

We need to understand that
the pharmaceutical companies, the capitalists have a good share in all such lifelong hormonal pills and complex surgeries. According to Global Market Insights – Sex Reassignment Surgery Market was worth more than USD 623 million in 2022.

Now, what to do especially when even muslim majority counties are also getting influenced with this 2SLGBTQIA+? There are specific steps to execute –
On Individual levels, and On Collective levels.

On Individual levels –

Communicate with kids on their levels, educate them through bedtime stories. Does not matter if your kids are getting homeschooled or having Islamic schooling, the society, the billboards, the state buildings, the advertisement on their screens even if it is a kid programme then their very cartoons, all are bombarding them with pixels and images which are aiming to normalise it all.
Let them ask you tough questions from “Why are we Muslims, just because we are born into it?” to “What is 2SLGBTQI+? And if they don’t ask, you ask them and provoke their inquisitiveness, so that they can question back. They should know that they have someone to turn for their queries. Don’t shun them, even on their WEIRDEST questions.
Build the bond to a level that they find a friend in YOU.
Tell them about Ayah 23 from Sarah Al-Jathiya in which Allah says –
أَفَرَءَيْتَ مَنِ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَـٰهَهُۥ هَوَىٰهُ ۚ
“Have you seen those who have taken their own desires as their god?”

Tell them how our bodies are an amanah (trust) given to us by Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى, and we don’t own our own bodies, Allah is The Owner. Educate them by simplifying it to their own levels depending on their ages.
And last but not the least, make lots of duas to Allah Al-Hafeez to protect us and our progeny from all sorts of filth!

On Collective levels –

We need to comprehend that despite getting them homeschooled, or despite sending them to Islamic schools, along with monitoring their screens, having constant communication with them, we still are highly vulnerable as the system institutionalises its beliefs structurally by creating a public opinion using all its resources from – flags and flowery language to media and even markings of road.

We really need to understand the ayah in which Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى says –
“Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves. And when Allah intends for a people ill, there is no repelling it. And there is not for them besides Him any protector (وَالٍ)”. (Holy Qur’an 13:11)

Allah is Al Waali (from the same root word which is used above in وَالٍ)
What is interesting is to note that Allah Al Waali, The Protector, The Governor of all affairs is informing us the condition (شرط) of bringing the change.
But sadly! This ayah has been used widely in misinterpreted context. People generally quote it with regards to individual change, they think if we all will change then the bigger change will come itself.
No doubt! We should all strive to change what is in ourselves on individual levels too for the betterment, and no one is belittling the importance of tazkiyah nafs (revival of the inner self), but this ayah is with regards to the collective change.
We will realise it if we analyse a bit of Arabic here.

The thing to note here is that the word Qawm (قوم) has been used, which means that the subject matter addressed here is the issue of collective change in the society and not individual change, as the word used is qawm implying collective sense, and not individualistic sense.

It is noteworthy that Allah mentioned that He will not change the condition of qawm until (حتیٰ) they change what is in themselves ( بِأَنفُسِهِمْ).
Until (حتیٰ) is a condition here (شرط).
And the word أَنفُسِهِمْ means what is in themselves and it is plural implying to qawm (قوم) and not just individuals.

Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى has further mentioned the action verb يُغَيِّرُوا۟ (they change), clearly implying that the qawm must do something for the change so that Allah will change the condition of the qawm. We have a collective responsibility to work for the change, and
for bringing a change we need to understand that our way is الصراط المستقيم (al sirat al mustaqeem, the straight way). We are not supposed to go to Left wing or Right wing.
Left wing attacks Islam, and Right wing attacks Muslims, they are two different sides of the same coin, they are two ‘wings’ of the same bird. We shouldn’t be dwindling in choosing between lesser and bigger evil, as AN EVIL IS EVIL even if it a lesser of two evils, and we are the BEST UMMAH not sent to make evil choices, but sent to enjoin good and forbid evil.
As we know even Muslim majority countries are not ruling by what Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى has legislated. Therefore, we need to be working to bring back the system legislated by Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى in Muslim countries, so that we have a place where systematically and structurally the tarbiyyah (culturing) is not done to propagate submission to slavery of our whims and desires as ilah (Rabb), but tarbiyyah (culturing) is done to proliferate submission to One and Only Allah Al-Hakam alone.

“And do not be like those who forgot Allah, so He made them forget themselves. It is they who are ˹truly˺ rebellious.”
Surah Hashr ayah 19

We shouldn’t forget Allah as Al-Hakam -The Legislator, otherwise the natural progression of such a society which follows and makes laws as per their own whimsical desires is bound to be lost to an extent that they will forget themselves, their very own DNA.

May Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَى rectify our state of affairs. Ameen.
