In recent statements by Kuwaiti authorities regarding the revocation of thousands of citizenships, the use of the term “clean all the impurities” is deeply unIslamic. To refer to human beings as “impure” based on nationality, lineage, or legal status is a violation of the basic principles of Islam.
The hadees said it clear.
“He is not one of us who calls to asabiyyah (tribalism, nationalism).”
The Prophet ﷺ said during his final sermon,
“All mankind is from Adam and Eve. An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab have any superiority over an Arab, a white has no superiority over a black, nor does a black have any superiority over a white except by taqwa (piety and good action).”
The Holy Qur’an reminds us again and again that every human being carries inherent dignity.
وَلَقَدْ كَرَّمْنَا بَنِىٓ ءَادَمَ
“And We have certainly honored the children of Adam…”
(Surah Al-Isra, 17:70)
No nationalist agenda can override what Allah Al-Hakam has already decreed, karamah (honour) is given to every bani Adam (children of Adam).
Stripping people of citizenship for reasons rooted in tribalism while cloaking it in the language of “national purity” is a dangerous abuse of power, and so much anti Islam. And such actions fall under the Qur’anic label of zulm (oppression).
وَمَن لَّمْ يَحْكُم بِمَآ أَنزَلَ ٱللَّهُ فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ
“…And whoever does not legislate by what Allah has revealed, then it is they who are the wrongdoers (zaalimoon).”
(Surah Al-Ma’idah, 5:45)
SubhanAllah! This ayah condemns those who rule by any standard other than what Allah Al-Hakam has revealed, they are termed as zaalimoon.
So, yeah! What else to expect from muslim majority countries who are not ruling as per Islam. Except to Expect zulm!
