SubhanAllah! The viral video of this innocent child has become a symbol of the suffering of humans at the cost of nationalist policies that prioritize borders over compassion.
Islam emphasizes the unity of the Ummah and condemns tribalism and nationalism that divide humanity.
The Holy Quran states, “O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.” Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also warned against tribalism, nationalism stating, “He is not one of us who calls to asabiyyah (tribalism, nationalism).”
The nationalist agendas lead to the marginalization and suffering of vulnerable populations. In recent months, Pakistan has intensified its efforts to expel Afghan refugees, leading to the deportation of over 800,000 individuals since November 2023.
SubhanAllah! Without Allah’s shade, the ummah is like an orphan, being brutally tortured from every where, especially and sadly from their own brethren.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said
“The Muslim is the brother of the Muslim. He does not oppress him, nor does he forsake him.”
(Sahih Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)
The viral image of the innocent, green eyed Afghan baby, wide eyed, unaware of borders or policies is not just a symbol of suffering. It is a proof against the nation-states that place allegiance to artificial lines above the Divine command to shelter the oppressed. How easily innocence is sacrificed for the sake of nationalism, a modern idol, no less destructive than the ones broken by Ibrahim عليه السلام
Islam does not recognize borders when it comes to haqq (truth) and amanah (trust). The Ummah is one body, and as the Prophet ﷺ said,
“If one part of the body suffers, the whole body suffers.”
(Sahih Muslim)
But today, that body is numbed by the poison of nationalism.
سرحدیں کھنچ گئیں دل سے دلوں کے درمیان،
امت کا جسم تھا، وطنیّت نے چیر دیا۔
“Borders were drawn between hearts and souls alike,
It was the body of the Ummah, nationalism split it with a strike.”
…But what else to expect from a place which is not ruling as per Allah’s ahkaam (commands).
