The recent solar eclipse reminded me of this hadees –
Narrated Al-Mughira bin Shu’ba:
“The sun eclipsed in the life-time of Allah’s Apostle on the day when (his son) Ibrahim died. So the people said that the sun had eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim. Allah’s Apostle said, “The sun and the moon do not eclipse because of the death or life (i.e. birth) of some-one. When you see the eclipse pray and invoke Allah.”
SubhanAllah! This hadith triggered me back to the truthful emotional intelligence of the beloved Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم
It must have been very hard on the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم that his son Ibrahim died.
When the people around said that the eclipse happened due to the death of Prophet’s son Ibrahim, the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم despite all the pain he was enduring, he said that the eclipses are signs of Allah subhaanahu wa ta’aala, and they don’t happen due to anyone’s death.
SubhanAllah! Sometimes when we are in the deep emotions, and are suffering deeply we often say or even hear which pleases us, and is in our favour.
How easy it would have been to believe in that age that the eclipse happened due to the death of the Prophet’s son Ibrahim, but the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم was the Prophet of Allah, he told the truth that it doesn’t happen due to someone’s death.
It is a lesson for us – To be emotionally intelligent, and be truthful even in deepest of crises.
