Al Azeez

Beautiful names of our Rabb

Al – Azeez

Meaning -The One who is The Most Powerful.
The Most Cherished.
The One Whose strength, glory and power are overwhelming and cannot be overcome or resisted.

Verily! He is Al-Azeez and true izza belongs to Him alone.

And for the servants, the true dignity comes in servitude to Him only.

As humans, we all need and we all strive for izza, honour and dignity, we need to understand that we should seek it from Him alone Al-Azeez Who is The Source of all honour, power and dignity.

Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “We were indeed a very lowly people. Allah raised us to honor and greatness through Islam. If we forget who we are and wish other than Islam, which elevated us, The One who raised us surely will debase us.”

SubhanAllah (All Glory belongs to Allah), our honour is in Islam and sadly today we see many Muslims are struggling with inferiority complex and identity crisis just because Islam is portrayed by the main stream media and paid channels as barbaric and inhumane.
Sadly, we have reached to a state where we are debased as we disassociate ourselves from the true teachings of Islam and rely upon the distorted definitions provided to us by the propagandists.
Today, we see everywhere we are the talk of the town, every newspaper, news shows, the headlines all are talking about us in bad light, some because of their increase TRP (target rating points) some because they are paid to build such a narrative to serve their selfish political benefits.

SubhanAllah! We have Muslim names but we are far away from the personalities upon whom we are named, there is no Islam within us other than some rituals, we have forgotten the essence of Islam and its being a complete deen, and thus we see all around that we are debased, humiliated and treated as good for nothing types. This is all just because we have left Islam and picked some parts of it, some rituals to follow and many of us feel inferior in following that as well.
If we really want our glory back we have to turn to our roots and understand the wise words of Umar (r.a) that if we will leave Islam then we will be debased.

“If you do not aid the Prophet – Allah has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out [of Makkah] as one of two, when they were in the cave and he said to his companion, “Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us.” And Allah sent down his tranquillity upon him and supported him with angels you did not see and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the word of Allah – that is the highest. And Allah is Exalted in Might (Al-‘Azeez) and Wise (Al-Hakeem).”
(Holy Quran 9:40)

We know the incident of cave thawr when Abu Bakr (r.a) became anxious, fearing for the life of Prophet Muhammed (peace and blessings be upon him).
The enemies were just outside the cave and the feet can be seen from inside the cave, the only thing they had to do was to look down and they would have found Abubakr (r.a) and Prophet Muhammed (pbuh), who were taking a temporary refuge from the enemies of Makkah while migrating to Medina.

Just try to imagine the whole scenario.

SubhanAllah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) comforted Abubakr (r.a) by saying, “Do not grieve. He is surely with us,” and added: “What do you think of the two men beside whom Allah is the third?”

In this beautiful ayat we found Allah’s two amazing attributes –
Al Azeez and Al Hakeem.

We should understand that struggling in His way, migrating and even hiding in a temporary refuge and having fear of being seen and giving comfort all these are different parts of the struggles and Allah is Al Hakeem – The All Wise, Who knows well what is best for us with regards to both the worlds.
Al-Aziz gives izza and honour to those who strive in His path with might and mains.

In Holy Quran 36:14, it is mentioned –
“When We sent to them two but they denied them, so We strengthened them with a third, and they said, “Indeed, we are messengers to you”

Interestingly! The word for strengthened that is used is “azazna”, from the same root of Allah’s name Al-Azeez.
When we do something for Allah, then Allah strengthen us in amazing ways.

When we read
Holy Quran, we realise that from time to time, the Prophets (peace be upon them all) were sent to warn, to give glad tidings and to preach the monotheistic faith, and almost all were severely mocked upon by the people, they were threatened and even persecuted by the powerful people of their times, but Allah – Al-Azeez has strengthened them all, they did not compromise, nor did they dilute the message just because of the fear of the tyrants.
They remained steadfast and were strengthened by Al-Azeez Who gave them izza, honour on the earth and on the seven heavens even though they were tortured, persecuted here.

Holy Quran itself is a source of strength from Al-Azeez which enables the striving slaves of
Al-Azeez to feel strengthened for His services.

So, whenever we feel like low on our levels of self esteem, izza, honour and dignity and feel like we are humiliated from this world on speaking and standing for haqq (truth) then don’t search for the honour and dignity at the hands of those who belittled us, instead we should turn our face to Al-Azeez, and ask Him to bless the tranquillity and honour.
