Like a garment

هُنَّ لِبَاسٌ لَّكُمْ وَأَنتُمْ لِبَاسٌ لَّهُنَّ

“They are your garments and you are their garments.”
(Surah Baqarah, ayat 187)

This ayat is in context with the spouse, Allah swt is telling us that spouses are like a garment for each other, like a libaas!

Such a beautiful parable.
SubhanAllah!

What garments do?
They protect us from heat, cold or being wet.
They save us from being exposed.
They beautify us.
And
They are the closest one to us.

This is how we should strive for our mutual relationship with our spouse, we should try to be close and protect each other’s honour and this requires effort from both sides, obviously!

If we, as spouse, will try to be like a garment for each other then the bond will be filled with love, care and respect.

We have noticed that sometimes the garment doesn’t befit properly, it doesn’t beautify the one wearing it but despite that it fulfills the purpose well – it covers the faults, it protects, it is close and is quite comfortable!

So, even if in some cases, where the spouse may not befit each other entirely when it comes to apparent looks or some materialistic issues, they should not lose hope, they should try to fit in the purposes provided and should try to be a libaas, a garment for each other, in this way forward they will eventually find love and respect, comfort and tranquillity in their relationship.

inshaAllah
