The Moth On My Glass Window

“Amma, please give me your mobile, I need it to capture an image for you, may be you can write a reflective blog on it.” said my younger son excitedly.

MashaAllah! He knows that I see everything around as Allah’s sign, conveying us something deeper to comprehend and reflect upon.

To honour his captured moment, I watched it for a while, thinking how fragile and small it looked, yet how determined it was. It had no doubt about where it needed to go. It saw light, and it moved.

Simple. Uncomplicated. Pure.

SubhanAllah! We often overcomplicate following Islam. Like for instance, just to quote two among many examples – We tell ourselves, “Let me fix myself first, then I will pray properly.” Or, “I will wear the hijab, jilbab once I become more religious.” We delay coming closer to Allah Ar-Raheem because we think we need to be “perfect” before we even begin. In other words, we deceive ourselves with such self imposed excuses.

SubhanAllah! the moth didn’t wait to be perfect to move toward the light, it just moved. Something deep inside it recognized that light is what it is made for.

The moth reminded – Don’t hesitate. Don’t wait for perfection. Just turn to The Light.

We don’t need to wait either. We can stand in salah even with a heavy heart. We can wrap scarf around, and wear jilbab even if we are still struggling.

Because Allah Al-Azeem never asked us to be perfect, He just asked us to submit ourselves to Him. Only He is Al-Quddus – The Pure, The Perfect.

So, if you are waiting for that “one sign” from your Rabb to start observing Islam and its abandoned commandments, then treat it as a big sign, as Allah is Al-Lateef (The Subtle One).

If you are reading this, know that it wasn’t without purpose inshaAllah.
