Reflections on the Board of Peace (Board of Mischief)

The recent removal of Canada’s Prime Minister from Gaza “peace” discussions by Donald Trump is not accidental. It followed Mark Carney’s public speech questioning the legitimacy of international law and criticizing American hegemony.

Those who challenge power, even mildly, are sidelined. Those who submit are invited to the table. And one can see how many Muslim-majority countries are seated there.

Carney himself acknowledged that the powerful use laws when it benefits them. When it does not, they discard them.

Gaza proves this. International law exists on paper. On the ground, it is buried beneath rubble.

What hurts most is not Western hypocrisy. That was expected. What wounds is the cooperation of Muslim countries. Many Muslim-majority governments are actively engaging with the same powers enabling Israel’s destruction of Gaza. Some have normalized relations. Some provide intelligence cooperation. Some offer diplomatic cover. Some issue statements of concern while signing deals behind closed doors.

This is not neutrality. This is betrayal.

Governments that call themselves “peacemakers” are actively participating in destruction. They speak the language of diplomacy while enabling genocide. They condemn violence while funding it. They host summits while hosting war criminals.

Muslim countries are not powerless. They control strategic trade routes. They influence global energy markets. They possess collective political and economic leverage. Yet instead of using this power to defend Gaza, many use it to secure favor with Washington and Tel Aviv in pursuit of their own capitalist and national interests.

The claim that they are “doing what they can” is no longer credible. When Muslim governments can mobilize instantly for economic summits, military alliances, and regime protection, but cannot mobilize for Gaza, the problem is not capacity. It is will.

Meanwhile, Muslim populations around the world still believe in international law. They still petition. They still appeal to the United Nations. They still believe in illusions.

The point I want to raise is that- Trump sidelining Canada over one speech exposes a system that tolerates only unconditional obedience. Muslim countries aligning with Trump’s so-called board of peace reveals the depth of their compliance, complicity, and submission. This “board of peace” is nothing but a board of mischief.

Also, the decisions are ultimately subject to a single veto by Trump.

And then comes the ultimate insult. Israel, the occupier, the oppressor, is also boarded on the board of “peace”. Imagine this. The very power destroying Gaza is now positioned to “help” govern its future.

Muslim countries that have joined Trump’s board of “peace” include.

Pakistan
Saudi Arabia,
Qatar,
Turkiye,
Indonesia
Jordan,
UAE,
Egypt

The Holy Quran warned about such “peacemakers”

“And when it is said to them, ‘Do not cause mischief on the earth,’ they say, ‘We are but peacemakers.’ Unquestionably, it is they who are the mischief makers, but they perceive it not.”
Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:11–12
