Profits over People

Recently, Ontario Premier Doug Ford said he wants to remove rent control. That means landowners can raise rent on almost any apartment by as much as they want.

Even though it is not an act yet, but the proposal itself should be criticized!
…And guess what, Ford says this removal of rent control will help build more housing!

SubhanAllah! That means, tenants are at the mercy of the market. Landlords can raise rents however high they want.

This is unjust to regular people who work hard but can’t keep up with skyrocketing prices. Seniors, families, and low and medium income renters will suffer the hardest.

This move is a clear example of capitalism in action. In capitalism, profit comes first. The market decides how much something is worth, and landlords stand to gain the most. Those who can’t pay left behind. Ford’s plan favors investors and landlords, not the people who actually need homes.

Taking away rent control won’t fix the housing crisis. It will make life harder for tenants and give landlords more power to profit. Instead of protecting people, it hands over their homes to the highest bidder.

This is capitalism in action. First, they manufacture a problem, like the housing crisis, by underbuilding homes despite having ample land and resources. Once scarcity make prices go up and frustration peaks high, they present “solutions” that often favor profit over people, such as removing rent controls.

“Solutions” like these don’t address the root issue of inadequate housing supply, instead, they shift the burden on the tenants, allowing landlords and developers to capitalize on the crisis. The system profits from both the problem and the so-called solution.
